Each article has one draft at a time. There are no parallel copies to merge. Every contributor works on the same draft.

Contributor-level changes
Each contributor’s edits in their own color. Carried-over content stays black. Hover any highlight to see who wrote it, and when. Turn the color layer off to read the draft clean.
Compare versions
Compare with shows the overall difference between two versions. Pick any two versions, not only consecutive ones. Additions and removals are marked inline, in place.
Restore with confidence
Copy an older version to the draft. The current draft is kept as a System Backup, and everyone is notified. Nothing is overwritten, the backup becomes a version of its own. The notice names who restored it, and which version it came from.
Collaborate with Eddy AI
Generate or rewrite mid-session. Everyone else drops to read-only until Eddy AI finishes, then picks straight back up. Everyone sees why editing paused, not just that it did. Select a passage first to scope the rewrite to it.

How many people can edit an article at the same time?
Up to 10, including reviewers. When the limit is reached, Edit is unavailable for the next person, who still sees the published article or a snapshot of the latest saved draft.

Which editor supports collaborative editing?
Articles in the Advanced WYSIWYG editor, including custom (non-spec) API documentation articles. Not the Markdown editor.

What happens when the collaborative editing limit is reached?
Anyone with edit permissions on the article. Access, workflow state, and publishing rights still control what each person can do.

What happens if two people edit the same place at once?
The most recent edit is retained. If a teammate deletes the paragraph you’re in, your cursor moves to where it began.

Can contributors comment while others are editing?
Yes. Comments, highlights, and resolved threads update in real time. Filters and the panel state apply only to your view.

What happens when someone publishes an article?
Everyone sees an Article published notice, and a new draft is created. The publisher moves to it; everyone else keeps editing where they were. If two people publish at nearly the same time, the actions complete one after the other.

Can I see who made each change?
Yes. Revision history colors every addition, deletion, and edit by contributor. Compare with shows overall differences between two versions, not per-contributor changes.
While viewing or copying an older version you’re not counted as an active contributor. You rejoin on returning to the draft.

What happens when a teammate uses Eddy AI?
The article goes read-only for everyone else, with a message naming who started it. Editing resumes when it finishes.
Translation behaves differently. It uses the last saved version of the article, so save your edits before a teammate starts a new translation or they are replaced.

Are there any editor features that change during collaboration?
Code view is unavailable with more than one contributor editing. Save as template pulls in only the person who starts it.

What happens if I lose my connection?
You can keep editing offline. Your changes sync automatically when the connection is restored, and collaborator cursors come back up to date.

What if the article is updated outside the editor?
You’re prompted to reload, and unsaved changes are kept as a System Backup you can restore from Revision history. Auto-save pauses until you reload. While you’re editing in the portal, Customer API updates to that article are blocked.

Where isn’t collaborative editing supported?
It’s not available in the Markdown editor, snippets, templates, custom pages, Interactive decision trees, or Step-by-step guides.
