Popularly called ‘data about data’, Metadata is the structured summary or underlying description about a particular information or data which makes it easier to find, sort, use and reuse. For example, author, date created, date modified and file size are examples of basic document file metadata. Other than document files, metadata is also used for computer files, images, videos, audio files, web pages, and other types of data. For example, semantic metadata helps computers interpret data by adding references to concepts in a knowledge graph.
