How to Set Up a Custom MCP Server Connection

Modern documentation workflows are evolving with AI. With Model Context Protocol (MCP), Document360 connects seamlessly with AI tools like ChatGPT, enabling real-time actions, smarter automation, and a more efficient way to manage knowledge at scale.

In this tutorial, we’ll walk through how to set up a custom MCP connection between Document360 and ChatGPT, so you can create, manage, and scale content directly from your AI tools.

  • To get started with MCP:

    • Log in to your Document360 portal and go to AI Settings.
    • Open the MCP section where connectors are initially disabled.
    • Click Enable MCP to begin setup.
    • In the prompt, click Allow Access to enable external AI integrations.

    Once enabled, MCP connectors become available for configuration, allowing integration with external AI tools.

  • To configure a custom connection:

    • Locate the Custom Connectors card in the MCP section.
    • Click Get Details to generate the configuration.
    • Copy the provided JSON configuration for use in your AI tool.

  • Now switch to ChatGPT to complete the integration:

    • Go to the Apps section in ChatGPT.
    • Open Advanced Settings and enable Developer Mode.
    • Click Create App.
    • Enter a name and optional description.
    • Paste the JSON into the MCP server URL field.
    • Click Create to establish the connection.

  • After setup:

    • Your app will appear under Enabled Apps.
    • Select the app to view available actions and capabilities.
    • Available actions may evolve as features and requirements change.

  • Try out the integration directly from ChatGPT:

    • Ask ChatGPT to create a new category in Document360.
    • Generate a full article within that category.
    • Use AI to translate content into multiple languages if needed.

  • Check your updates in Document360:

    • View the newly created category and article.
    • Edit content and collaborate with your team.
    • Submit for review or publish when ready.

  • MCP helps streamline your workflows:

    • Automate repetitive documentation tasks.
    • Integrate with multiple AI tools for efficiency.
    • Improve content creation and scalability over time.
