How to Set Up a Custom MCP Server Connection

Integrating Document360 with MCP-compatible AI tools enables teams to connect their documentation platform with intelligent assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, and custom AI systems. Using the Model Context Protocol (MCP), these integrations allow AI tools to securely access knowledge base content, perform actions, and stay synchronized with your documentation workflows.

In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to enable MCP in Document360, configure a custom ChatGPT connection, and use AI-powered actions to create and manage content directly from your preferred AI tool.

Enable MCP in Document360

To get started:

  • Open your Document360 project
  • Navigate to AI Settings
  • Open the MCP section
  • Click Enable MCP
  • Select Allow Access when prompted

Once enabled, the available MCP connectors become accessible for configuration.

Retrieve MCP Configuration Details

To configure a custom AI connection:

  • Locate the Custom Connectors card
  • Click Get Details
  • Copy the generated JSON configuration

This configuration contains the information required to establish a secure MCP connection with your AI tool.

Configure the Connection in ChatGPT

To connect ChatGPT with Document360:

  • Open ChatGPT

Once connected:

  • Select the newly created app
  • Review the available actions and capabilities
  • Use supported actions directly from ChatGPT

Available actions may expand over time as new capabilities are added to the platform.

Create Content Using AI

With the connection active, you can perform documentation tasks directly from ChatGPT.

  • Create new categories in your knowledge base
  • Generate complete articles using AI
  • Translate content into multiple languages
  • Perform documentation tasks without leaving ChatGPT

Content created through MCP is automatically synchronized with your Document360 project.

Manage Content in Document360

After content is created:

  • Open Document360 to view the new categories and articles
  • Edit and refine generated content
  • Collaborate with team members
  • Submit articles for review
  • Publish content when ready

This allows teams to combine AI-assisted content creation with existing documentation governance and review processes.
